NEDCC 2011-2012 Samuel H. Kress Foundation
Conservation Fellow in Paper Conservation
NEDCC is pleased to announce that Athena Moore is the Center's Kress Conservation Fellow for 2011-2012. Since 2003, the Samuel H. Kress Foundation has funded
one-year post-graduate fellowships in paper conservation at NEDCC. The Kress fellowships are designed to train students who have received theoretical and early practical training, and who require additional hands-on experience to be fully qualified for mid-level or advanced positions in museums, libraries, archives, or regional conservation centers.
Athena Moore has completed conservation internships at the Magill Library at Haverford College, the Hayden Memorial Library at MIT, and the Frances Loeb Library at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design. She was the 2010 Von Klemm Fellow in Book Conservation at the Boston Athenæum. Athena earned a diploma in Bookbinding from the North Bennet Street School and holds a B.A. in writing from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. She is a member of the Guild of Book Workers and the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (AIC).
Athena works under the direction of Mary Patrick Bogan, Director of Book Conservation, and has already become a vital member of the book lab staff at NEDCC. The fellowship curriculum covers the practice of all common treatment procedures, as well as digital documentation of treatments and preparation of detailed treatment reports. Training also focuses on developing judgment and flexibility in treating a wide variety of materials, and carrying out the highest standards of practice in conservation treatment.
NEDCC is grateful to the Samuel H. Kress Foundation for their continued support of the Center's fellowship program. |
