NEDCC Welcomes Tom Rieger as
Director of Imaging Services

NEDCC is pleased to announce that Tom Riegerhas joined the Center as Director of Imaging Services. He is responsible for leading the Center’s highly-regarded digital imaging department and managing its staff of professional photographers.

A graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology, Tom co-founded Rieger Communications in Clarksburg, Maryland. The full-service photography laboratory specialized in corporate, museum, and institutional imaging solutions for over 35 years. Working with clients of all types, including the Library of Congress, NASA, the National Park Service, the Smithsonian Institution, the National Geographic Society, and the National Archives, Tom gained a reputation as one of the most knowledgeable and innovative experts in the field of digital imaging.

As a pioneer in the implementation of digital technologies in commercial imaging, Tom served in various advisory roles for technology companies and industry associations. He worked with Kodak on the first commercial color management system, and collaborated with many colleagues and companies on the development of new digital imaging systems.

NEDCC’s Digital Imaging studios feature a wide range of specialized equipment and imaging platforms customized for the digitization of historic and artistic materials. Tom will work closely with the Center’s skilled book and paper conservators on projects that present challenging conservation issues, and he will confer with clients to help evaluate their collections and develop digital reformatting proposals and specifications. Tom starts at NEDCC at the end of November.

Bill Veillette, NEDCC Executive Director comments:  “We’re very excited to have someone of Tom’s experience and talents on our team. With Tom’s leadership, NEDCC will continue to develop additional specialty services to meet the digital imaging needs of the library, archive, museum, and cultural heritage communities.”
