Digital Directions:
Fundamentals of Creating and Managing Digital Collections
A project supported by
the National Endowment for the Humanities
Digital Directions is a three-day conference presenting
the essential of digitization. A faculty of national experts introduced
participants to the range of activities and issues associated
with digitizing collection material, from file formats to fund
raising, from digital printing to digital asset management. The
conference is an updated version of NEDCC’s popular School
for Scanning, which was first presented in 1995. The conference
has kept up with evolving standards and practices over the years,
and was renamed to reflect its expanded content, which now encompasses
the full life-cycle of digital objects from planning to creation
to sustainability.
Digital Directions - May 2009 - San Diego, California

The Tectonics of Digital Curation:
A Symposium on the Shifting Preservation

digital preservation to help institutions with the life-cycle
management of their collections. The conference was geared toward

Stewardship of Digital Assets
A project supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities
Stewardship of Digital Assets was a two-day workshop on sustaining
digital collections. A faculty of digital experts taught the interactive,
hands-on workshop at four locations across the country from Fall
2007 to Fall 2008. The workshop was created in partnership with
PALINET, SOLINET, Amigos Library Services, and OCLC
Western Service Center. Funding was provided by the National
Endowment for the Humanities.
A toolkit was created as part of this project that consists of
a number of tools to help you gauge and plan for digital preservation
readiness at your institution: a questionnaire that will assist
in planning, a digital preservation policy template, and numerous
links to online resources. Click
