2017 Call for Applications:

Advanced Photograph Conservation Internship 
for Central and Eastern European Professionals

The Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC) announces a call for applications for a two-month advanced internship in photograph conservation at NEDCC in Andover, Massachusetts, USA, for one qualified conservator from Central or Eastern Europe. This program is funded by the Trust for Mutual Understanding.

The two-month internship will take place in the fall of 2017. The intern will gain valuable practical experience in photograph treatment techniques under the supervision of NEDCC's Senior Photograph Conservator Monique Fischer. The  internship will also include travel to New York and Washington DC to visit other conservation labs. 

The internship training program will include intensive study of photograph identification and hands-on practice of photograph conservation treatment techniques. The intern will refine his/her bench skills and learn new conservation techniques; observe ongoing conservation treatments in the NEDCC lab; learn the use of proper nomenclature to describe photographs and treatments; and practice written and photographic documentation of conservation treatments.

APPLICATION GUIDELINES:

The internship will be awarded on a competitive application basis. Applicants should submit a letter of interest, not to exceed two pages; brief curriculum vitae; and two letters of recommendation from professional colleagues or supervisors. The intern must be fluent in English.

The applicant's letter of interest should address the following questions:
1. Why is the internship important to your educational and professional goals?
2. How will the internship training help you in your day-to-day work?
3. What collections in your region can benefit from your training?
4. What experience and/or training have you had in the conservation of photographs?
5. Will you be able to share the knowledge and skills gained during the internship with other conservation professionals in the region? If so, how?


DEADLINE:

Applications are due by Friday, March 17, 2017, and must be submitted by email.
