A SYMPOSIUM ON PHOTOGRAPH CONSERVATION

About the Symposium:
NEDCC | Northeast Document Conservation Center and the Croatian State Archives present a three-day professional development symposium for conservators, archivists, museum professionals, administrators, and others who care for photographic materials.  The goal of the Symposium is to: create discussion on how to further the preservation of photographic materials in the region; help create more professional development opportunities; reach other professionals; and strengthen the connections between past participants in NEDCC’s training programs. This program is funded by a generous grant from the Trust for Mutual Understanding. 

Martina Bagatin,  NEDCC's 2014 Advanced Intern and Senior Photograph & Paper Conservator at the Croatian State Archives will help develop the program and coordinate local arrangements. Hrvoje Gržina, NEDCC's 2011 Advanced Intern and Archival Advisor at the Croatian State Archives, will help with the organization of the symposium program.

The 2019 Symposium Program

Day 1:  Short presentations by past participants in NEDCC’s Advanced Photograph Conservation Internship program
Day 2:  Papers by local professionals who are in charge of caring for photographic collections 
Day 3:  A workshop and local tours 

The symposium will be presented in English.

Submission Requirements:

• Abstracts 500 words or less, written in English

• Speaker biography 300 words or less

• Name(s) of speaker(s) and any co-author(s)

• Institution/company

• Position title

• Contact e-mail address and telephone number

• Presentation Format: 20 minute talk

Topics:

Regional professionals are encouraged to submit an abstract about their experience with the preservation of photographic materials in Eastern and Central Europe. The symposium’s theme is to help promote the understanding of photograph conservation in the region. Themes can include outreach, collection care, conservation techniques, history of an institution’s collection, and working on a limited budget.

February 1, 2019. Speakers will contacted by February 15 about the committee’s decision.
