National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC)

Access to Historical Records Grants

Deadlines:
June 15, 2016 (Optional draft deadline: April 4, 2016)

Grant Amount:
Up to $200,000 for one or two-year projects  (Cost Sharing Required)


Eligible activities include:
Preservation, arrangement, and online description of historical records in all formats. (Preservation activities must support the goal of providing online access to eligible materials that have great benefit to a broad public.) Digital preservation of electronic records and unstable audio and visual formats.

Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR)

Digitizing Hidden Special Collections and Archives Grants

(Funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation)

Deadlines:
April 5, 2016 - Initial proposal deadline
July 15, 2016 - Initial proposal feedback issued
Sept 20, 2016 - Final proposal deadline (by invitation only)

Grant amounts:
Maximum allowable request for 2016: single-institution projects: $250,000 / collaborative projects: $500,000  (Minimum allowable request for 2016: $50,000)

Eligible activities:
The purpose of this program is to digitize and provide access to non-digital collections of rare or unique content in cultural heritage institutions.  Hidden special collections or archives can include many formats, including, paper, moving images on film or video, all types of sound recordings, ephemera, specimens, electronic files or data sets, works of art, and myriad types of artifacts.  (CLIR has verified that reformatting of appropriate hidden audio collections using IRENE would be eligible under this grant.)
