Preservation 101 – Additional Course Scheduled
NEDCC's current session of Preservation 101 was completely sold out, and we had a waiting list of over 15 people. As a result, we are adding an additional Preservation 101 program this fall for those who missed the opportunity.
Preservation 101: Preservation Basics for Paper and Media Collections is an interactive online course. A series of 10 webinars builds on self-paced study between sessions, using assigned readings and other resources to supplement the “classroom” discussions. The course is designed to provide a foundation for effective collections stewardship by guiding participants through preservation topics such as environmental management, deterioration of materials, and emergency preparedness. The new course features expanded coverage of audiovisual and digital formats.
The instructor provides lesson plans and feedback on tasks throughout the course, although explicit homework is not assigned. Participants will have access to webinar recordings and additional tools, while engaging in a weekly dialogue with the instructor and fellow students. The course prepares participants to complete a preservation needs assessment, and provides structured guidance on developing an institutional disaster plan.
A two-hour session, once a week, starting September 8, 2016, and ending November 17, 2016.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
– Staff and volunteers at cultural institutions
– Town clerks, county commissioners, and other municipal records holders
– Corporate archivists and records managers in need of preservation training
– Students or graduates of library and information science
Certificate of Completion provided, and 20 Archival Recertification Credits (ARCs) for eligible certified archivists.
September 1, 2016 (But register early, the course is filling quickly!)
Seats are limited to 30 people for optimum interaction with instructor and other participants.
(Note: The 2017 Preservation 101 Course runs from June–August 2017)
