Preservation Training for Smaller Organizations

Workshops on Digital Preservation & AV Preservation

Two great workshops, to be held on consecutive days at different locations around the country. These low-cost workshops are funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, and are designed for beginner to intermediate staff and volunteers at smaller organizations.
Participants may choose to register for one or both days in each location.

ABOUT THE WorkshopS

Digital Preservation for Smaller Institutions - One-day Workshop

NEDCC has partnered with the Digital POWRR Project to develop this one-day workshop with a focus on practical tips and activities for small organizations that have fewer than $500 per year to devote to digital preservation efforts. Participants will gain confidence to move from digital preservation theory to practice by understanding the different policies and tools needed to approach building a digital preservation program. The workshop will include several activities, including how to assess digital preservation using the NDSA Levels of Preservation, and will include hands-on experience with basic digital preservation tools that can be used even at institutions with limited budgets.

NOTE: This is not a workshop on how to scan or digitize materials. Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop in order to participate in the hands-on activity. Please contact [email protected] if you are unable to bring a laptop.

Audiovisual Preservation for Smaller Institutions - One-day Workshop

This one-day workshop gives participants the foundation needed to be effective collections stewards for audiovisual materials. The curriculum covers format identification and risks to audiovisual materials; care and handling; inventory and assessment, and planning for reformatting and digitization projects. The instructor will provide the information that participants need to create inventories of audiovisual holdings and to develop a reformatting timeline for priority materials, and will lead activities designed to identify common format carriers found in collections.

COST

$40 per one-day workshop
