Welcome New NEDCC Staff Members!
NEDCC welcomes Bexx Caswell-Olson as our new Director of Book Conservation. Bexx joins the Center's senior management team and will participate in Center-wide initiatives that have a broad impact on the preservation of cultural heritage collections nationwide. She will confer with clients to develop appropriate book conservation treatment proposals and will manage the Center’s team of talented book conservators.
Bexx has over 10 years of experience in preservation and conservation and previously served as Special Collections Conservator at Michigan State University. She is a graduate of North Bennett Street School, Simmons College, and Eugene Lang College. We look forward to Bexx’s arrival at NEDCC on November 12.
Amelia Sorensen, Assistant Book Conservator Amelia completed both an internship and a fellowship at NEDCC in 2009 and 2010, and returns to join the book lab staff as Assistant Book Conservator. The Book Conservation Lab treats bound volumes such as manuscripts, incunabula, scrapbooks, record books, and photograph albums, and treatments can range from minimal to extensive. Amelia holds a diploma in Bookbinding from the North Bennett Street School, and Certificate in Museum Studies from Harvard Extension School.
Nora Pfund, Collections Photographer Nora joins NEDCC's team of collections photographers responsible for the digital reformatting of the extensive and diverse collections held by NEDCC's institutional and private clients. Materials include maps, blueprints, photographic media, archival collections, rare books and illuminated manuscripts, and works of art on paper including oversize works. Nora earned a BS in Imaging and Photographic Technology with a minor in Imaging Systems at Rochester Institute of technology.
Ned Schultz, Book Conservation Technician Ned received a diploma in Bookbinding from the North Bennett Street School, where he studied the treatment and documentation of a wide variety of binding types. At NEDCC, he will perform book conservation treatments and documentation under the supervision of the Center's book conservators, as well as assist with assessments, surveys, and other lab duties as needed.
NEDCC Presents Symposium on Photograph Conservation at the Croatian State Archives
NEDCC has received a grant from the Trust for Mutual Understanding to develop and present a three-day professional development Symposium on Photograph Conservation at the Croatian State Archives (CSA) in Zagreb, Croatia, on May 22-24, 2019. The Symposium will include short presentations by past participants in NEDCC’s Advanced Photograph Conservation Internship program, as well as presentations from professionals in the region and a one-day workshop on caring for historic photograph collections.
NEDCC Senior Photograph Conservator Monique Fischer will coordinate and moderate the program. Martina Bagatin, Senior Photograph and Paper Conservator at the Croatian State Archives will help develop the program and coordinate local arrangements. CSA Archivist Hrvoje Gržina will help with the organization of the program. Both Martina and Hrvoje have participated as past interns in the training program for Central and Eastern European professionals.

Identification and Care of Photographic Materials: Daguerreotypes to Inkjet Prints Addison Gallery of American Art, Andover, MA March 14-15, 2019
This hands-on workshop offers an in-depth introduction to the preservation of photographic materials, including their identification, deterioration, and care. (Beginner to intermediate audience.)
