PHYSICAL COLLECTIONS CARE TOPICS:

My institution has 30,000 documents. This program helps further my knowledge of basic paper repair and allows me to make simple repairs that the museum otherwise could not afford.

- Basic Paper Repair Workshop

I work in an architectural archives/government agency, so a great deal of our material is oversize. The preservation and conservation techniques I learned in this course will apply to my facility on a nearly daily basis.

- Preservation of Oversize Materials Workshop

This workshop will help us be the best stewards of our collections possible. It arms us with additional information that helps formulate and/or support our collection management policies.

- Preservation of Oversize Materials Workshop

After taking this workshop, I will be able to properly identify my institution’s collection of prints. I will be able to teach other members of my staff to appreciate the processes behind making prints. Our library has a number of books containing prints that no one was able to identify.

-Identification and Care of Prints

I will be using the methods I learned immediately to repair books. We will be able to do simple in-house repairs and get books back into circulation instead of replacing them all. I currently have a stack of about 20 items awaiting repair.

- Intermediate Book Repair

We have approximately two exhibits per year from the archives. The course will help us promote our holdings, encourage researchers to use our archives, and give our history interns an outlet for their studies.

- Preparing Materials for Exhibition

I have had my share of sampling webinars, and yours was very high quality in comparison! I appreciate all the follow-up files. I am retired now, but I participated in your webinar because I am taking on the task of organization and preservation of eight generations’ worth of documents as well as some photographic materials for my family. I wanted to see if my information on “Mylar” was up to date since I no longer have access to the info and expertise at my institution. Thank you!

- Care and Handling of Photographs Webinar

Because the webinar has no travel, hotel, or other expenses, it was more economical than to attend a seminar in person. The quality of information given and of the presentation is high, and it allows the exchange of ideas between professionals.

- Care and Handling of Photographs Webinar

This webinar will help to preserve our photo collection by giving us the information we need in order to do it correctly, which in the long run will save time and money. I will immediately start to identify our “problem” photos and take steps to better preserve them, and then will start placing the rest of our collection in the proper containers for storage. I will also study cold storage options to see if that’s something we can pursue.

- Care and Handling of Photographs Webinar

After attending this webinar, I will be able to consider more careful handling procedures for high-use scrapbooks. We will begin by having phase boxes made for closed stacks scrapbooks. I now know when to have an item go to a professional conservator.

- Care and Handling of Scrapbooks Webinar1

My expectations for this webinar were met and exceeded! I was not sure if the webinar format would convey the type of hands-on demonstrations or application of principles I was seeking, but Donia used illustrations well and was very articulate in describing techniques.

DIGITAL COLLECTION CARE TOPICS

Since digitization is the hot topic in archives, and since the recent archival program I graduated from did not address digitization, having reputable, affordable educational resources like this is a boon to professionals who wish to keep abreast of practices and issues. This course is my entry into understanding digitization. Particularly, I came into this webinar not understanding how institutions authenticated digital information accessed by consumers. Now I know.

- Fundamentals of Digitization: Sustainable Digital Collections

I am the only librarian involved in the project now....one was let go. So this program allows me to continue to work at my desk, gather information, and implement. Also having information parsed in small bites is good for me. Our institution is getting value for their money.

- Fundamentals of Digitization: Sustainable Digital Collections

This webinar gave me more background information about the different types of metadata schema. I hope to use this information to determine what schema is best for our collection.

- Fundamentals of Digitization: Metadata Webinar

We are beginning our first digitization project of a historically significant photograph collection, and I felt that this webinar was a good way to become a bit more "digitization-savvy." Thank you, it helped!

- Fundamentals of Digitization: Digital Project Planning Webinar

As a new archivist (MLS with 34 years of experience administering libraries, not archives), I am about to undertake a small digitization project for my institution. The planning process outlined in the Webinar contained many elements that can be applied to other projects as well, and I was very glad for the specifics on planning digitization.

- Fundamentals of Digitization: Digital Project Planning Webinar

We're still very much in the early stages of planning and in fact had to backtrack from an initial plan to compile a larger grant proposal when it became clear that we needed far more information and input from others on the technical aspects. This webinar is very helpful background in outlining everything that needs to be done in the planning process.

- Fundamentals of Digitization: Digital Project Planning Webinar

We are deep in our planning process for a large scale digitization project for the art we keep in our corporate archive. For the most part, this session really just confirmed that we're on the right track in terms of the broad scope of what we're planning and considering as we move forward. NEDCC is such a great resource and one that we trust, and so it's reassuring that our process thus far has been in line with what was taught in this course.

- Fundamentals of Digitization: Introduction to Image Capture Webinar

Digital Asset Management is somewhat of an amorphous creature and for us, as for so many other institutions, it has crept up silently and now sits on our doorstep demanding attention. What it is, how it comes to be, how we wrangle it and make it work for us now, and–for us archivists—forever, are difficult questions that everyone seems to have an opinion about, but that few have any experience to authoritatively address. We are turning to NEDCC’s webinars to help us understand what we're dealing with and how to manage our assets, whether they are analog (that we hope to digitize) or born-digital. So....thank you for giving us a resource that we can turn to!

- Fundamentals of Digitization: Introduction to Image Capture Webinar

I felt that this was an outstanding workshop. The instructor managed to cover a lot, yet it never felt too overwhelming. I enrolled in this workshop because many of these standards came into existence after I completed library school, and I wanted to get some exposure. I am hoping that this will help me get more involved in digital projects at my library.
