NEDCC’s publications are internationally recognized as a valuable source of information. The publications assist institutions in planning for the preservation of their collections by providing the building blocks necessary to develop a preservation plan for library and archival materials, training for collections care and maintenance, and guidance for creating and managing digital assets.
Preservation Education Curriculum: An Introduction to Preservation
The Preservation Education Curriculum is a toolkit for a semester-long “Introduction to Preservation” course. The curriculum, divided into 13 three-hour classes, includes lesson plans; suggested readings and resources; suggested class activities, homework, and term projects; and an extensive image library. The curriculum, designed for adjuncts and existing faculty at MLS programs, allows instructors to expand or condense the classes to accommodate teaching strengths and incorporate guest speakers and field trips.
Development of this course was funded by an Institute of Museum and Library Services “Librarians for the 21st Century” grant. The content for the three-year project, which began in January 2005, was developed by an advisory committee composed of leaders in the field of preservation. The Northeast Document Conservation Center, in partnership with the Simmons Graduate School of Library and Information Science, is proud to offer this curriculum to promote preservation as a valued component of a library school education.

An associate of the Cuban History Institute translated the essays. It was requested by Amparo Torres, Special Projects Officer, The Library of Congress, that these pieces be posted on the NEDCC website in order to access and educate a larger Spanish speaking audience about photograph conservation.
