Taking It Further—Beyond the Primary Lesson
Additional Topics for Discussion
For Class 3, additional topics for discussion have not been separated out, since the level of detail covered for each topic in the lesson outline will depend significantly on the interests and specialties of the instructor. All topics in the outline should be addressed at least briefly, and the instructor should expand on certain topics at his/her discretion. For topics that are addressed only in brief, students should be directed to additional resources (see Resources for the Teacher).
If desired, an optional laboratory session can be added at the end of the class period according to the facilities, available time, and strengths and skills of each individual instructor. The lab session will illustrate methods of identification and testing of individual materials and will incorporate general principles regarding health and safety.
